In April 2008 NEON reached the landmark distinction of achieving NABL Accreditation
in 10 categories - the maximum number achieved by any pathological lab in Eastern
India till date. With more than 40,000 pathology labs in India around 100 have
achieved NABL Accreditation. NABL is considered as the "gold standard" in quality of
pathology testing.
NEON achieved NABL Accreditation within one and half years of commercial operation
and is possibly the youngest lab in India to reach this landmark in such a record
time.
National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) is an
autonomous body under the aegis of Department of Science & Technology, Government of
India. NABL is a partner and signatory to ILAC (International Laboratory
Accreditation Cooperation). Under the ILAC umbrella are 52 accreditation bodies
representing 45 countries. NABL accredited laboratories have therefore emerged as a
member of global family of accredited laboratories.
Already NEON is the preferrred choice for most of the leading hospitals, nursing
homes and doctors in this region who send samples of advanced pathology tests to
NEON facility in Kolkata as NEON is the only advanced pathology lab in this region.
In June 2008 a Joint Venture agreement was signed between NEON Healthcare & Research
Institute Limited (NHRIL) and the renowned Hayes Lab in USA.
On 11th June 2008 the Joint Venture "Tie-up Ceremony" took place in Kolkata and was
attended by the Hon'ble Health Minister-Dr. Surjya Kanta Mishra and Hon'ble Mayor of
Kolkata-Shri Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya. After the JV it was decided that the brand
NEON would be changed to DESUN. However the company will remain same as NEON
Healthcare & Research Institute Limited (NHRIL).
The JV will work towards basic research on molecular biology, outsourcing of samples
from US and Europe to our facility in Kolkata and also acquisition of labs in North
America and Europe in the future. Discussions were also held with the Government of
West Bengal after the JV was signed for setting up advanced pathology labs and
diagnostic centres in different Government hospitals in the State.
Besides market studies has already started in USA for outsourcing images from US
hospitals to India through Teleradiology (This is already being done by other
institutions from Bangalore and Hyderabad).
